Worlds Biggest Battery - Tesla
The battery era is almost here is South Australia!
Tesla’s giant battery is already at the halfway point of construction. A few weeks ago, Tesla boss Elon Musk held a party, overlooking the battery array in Hornsdale, to mark the halfway point of construction.
The battery built by Tesla and in partnership with SA government and Neoen (french, renewable company) will top 100 megawatts of capacity and offer 129 megawatt-hours of energy generation to our region. The assignment, slated for completion by December, will harness the existing Hornsdale Wind Farm to charge the mega-battery while the wind is blowing and discharge strength when it's miles most needed.
The large-scale battery energy storage system is 60% larger than any other installation in the world.
Hopefully the world’s largest lithium battery should allow emergency backup power if we have an outage in electricity again this coming summer!
With a bigger storage of power, hopefully we should have fewer power cuts within South Australia, however it is still vital to remain conscious of electrical safety within your home.
Ensuring that you have adequate protection via safety switches and also protection of your equipment so that if there is a power surge (most often through lightning strikes) none of your expensive equipment is blown up. People often forget about the cost of all their appliances etc that are all plugged into power points - if there is a power surge then most of these items get fried! Surge protection will minimise the risk of damage to anything within your home that is plugged into a power point.
